A word from Allen Halcomb

President, MossCreek Designs:

MossCreek Designs is a log and timberframe home design firm that has become well known throughout the US and Europe for our unique ability to combine the rich beauty of hand crafted log and timberframe homes with advantages of a precision milled home. Based in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains, the designers at MossCreek travel continuously as a result of our ongoing commissions.

The result is group of designers that understand the vast variety of styles and construction techniques used to create the beautiful log and timberframe homes that are America's heritage. In our new Conservation Series, MossCreek has drawn upon a variety of historical styles to create a collection that spans our great American landscape.

Before the first drop of ink hits any paper, each new MossCreek design is carefully planned to determine the objectives for the project. Only after these objectives are clear, MossCreek designers begin to craft each home through a series of overlay tracings. Like the refining of gold in a furnace, overlay by overlay, the project design is improved until it meets the discriminating satisfaction of the designer.

The design is then carefully inscribed into the computer to produce construction drawings that are both accurate and clear. Each designer continues to work to add the "little details" that are so important to a home of distinction. If the old adage "God is in the details" holds true, then we hope a MossCreek log home can truly be a piece of Heaven.

Whether you are planning to build immediately, or are just beginning to dream of a future home, we hope our collection of homes will be as enjoyable for you to look at as it was for us to create.

How the custom home design process works....

Step One: On Site Review
The first step of a MossCreek designed log home is a meeting at the client's site. At the site, we review the opportunities and constraints that the site affords to the project. We also review the overall project objectives and how issues such as wind and sun direction, views, slope, affect them.
Every site has it's advantages and disadvantages. With good planning, a home can often be designed to take advantage of scenic vistas, mountain breezes, and other site avantages, while responding to difficult issues such as extreme slope, awkward driveways, and the like.
`
Step Two: Sketching
Following the Site Review the next step is to get away with the client to a quiet spot and begin laying out the design. Working together, the client and the designer begin the process of taking the project from a dream to a reality.  At the end of a long day, we can usually have a complete set of sketch plans and elevations.

Step Three: Refining the Design

After returning back to the office, we take several weeks of working with a client to further refine the design. New drawings can be faxed, mailed over night, or posted to a client web page for quick response.  Only after the objectives are clear, do MossCreek designers begin to craft each home through a series of overlay tracings. Like the refining of gold in a furnace, overlay by overlay, the project design is improved until it meets the discriminating satisfaction of the designer and client.

Step Four: Construction Documents
Once the design is complete, construction documents are prepared for the project. Drawings are prepared in CAD to assure the highest level of technical accuracy. When combined with the Log Provider's and General Contractor's standard means and methods, the construction documents create a road map to a successfully completed home.
